DIE BEFORE YOU DIE ☮️
The person you are today is not necessarily the person you are meant to become.
Much of what you identify as “yourself” has been shaped by experiences, fears, habits, and attachments.
Over time these forces root so deeply that you begin to mistake them for your true being.
But beneath this acquired personality lies a higher individuality that has not yet awakened.
Goethe captured the law of this metamorphosis in two words:
To become something higher, something lower must first undergo transformation.
Its impulses, desires, and unconscious habits must gradually lose their power over you.
How does this death actually occur?
Dr Steiner describes a decisive moment on the path of initiation:
the encounter with the Guardian of the Threshold.
As the soul approaches the spiritual world, it encounters its own true I, clothed in the weaknesses, failings, and attachments it has accumulated during earthly life.
Every weakness.
Every selfish impulse.
Everything the soul refused to acknowledge now stands before it.
And the shock is that this being appears almost foreign — yet it is entirely your own creation.
Your past has become visible.
This confrontation awakens shame, disgust, and profound inner distress.
You discover how much of your “identity” was shaped by forces you never mastered.
You cannot overcome what you refuse to confront.
But you also cannot cast off the lower self prematurely.
Trying to escape your weaknesses without first recognizing them leads only to illusion.
You cannot bypass the consequences of your past.
You must become conscious of what has shaped you.
And this transformation requires the conscious development of Love, compassion, and freedom.
Only then can you begin to free yourself from its unconscious influence.
This is spiritual rebirth:
the awakening of a higher life through the transformation of the lower.
The past ceases to rule you.
It becomes material for your development.
The purpose is not to erase your history, but to transform everything it has made of you into something higher.
Die to what binds you.
Become what you are capable of being.
